DC Comics has released a trailer for a new series of comic book one-shots entitled Batman: One Bad Day, prestige format books that will each highlight the definitive adventures of various Batman villains.

Each special boasts some of the comic industry’s best creative talent. The villains include prominent foes, like the Riddler, Two-Face, the Penguin, Bane, and Catwoman. Additionally, Ra’s al Ghul, Mr. Freeze, and, most surprisingly, Clayface will also have the spotlight shine on them.

The Creative Teams behind Batman: One Bad Day

Batman: One Bad Day: The Riddler kicks off the series of graphic novels in August and DC will release a new one-shot each month.

Tom King and Mitch Gerads will produce The Riddler special in August. In September, Mariko Tamaki, Javier Fernandez, and Jordie Bellaire are behind the Two-Face story. The successive months will release The Penguin by John Ridley, Giuseppe Camuncoli, Cam Smith, and Arif Prianto, Mr. Freeze by Gerry Duggan, Matteo Scalera, and Dave Stewart, Catwoman by G. Willow Wilson, and Jamie McKelvie, Bane by Joshua Williamson, Howard Porter, and Tomeu Morey, Clayface by Collin Kelly, Jackson Lanzing, Xermanico, and Romulo Fajardo Jr., and finally Ra’s Al Ghul by Tom Taylor, and Ivan Reis.

For those who may not have been aware, One Bad Day is a riff off a line from the seminal Joker tale The Killing Joke. The series of graphic novels is an attempt to give other Bat-villains their definitive story, like The Killing Joke did for the Clown Prince of Crime. The real question is, with all this amazing talent, will any of these specials be as acclaimed as the original?
