Matthew Needham is the voice of The Joker in Batman: Caped Crusader season two.

Needham is most famous for playing Larys Strong in Game of Thrones prequel show House of the Dragon.

So far there is little indication of how the Joker will be in Caped Crusader. We saw a tease of him at the very end of season one. In literally the final scene of the season, we spy an old toolshed with a bunch of presumably dead bodies. Their faces were all contorted into horrifying half-smiles. We see the final victim laughing until he gives out. In the shadows, there is the Joker holding a syringe uttering: “Perfect.”

A Closer Look at the Joker in ‘Batman: Caped Crusader’

The Joker’s face is mostly obscured other than his eyes. However, between this scene and the season 2 trailer, we can gather a few things. This Joker is most definitely not the maniacal, laughing loon. He seems cold and calculating. He is more serious than goofy. His demeanor seems to be all business.

Just like I said previously when analyzing the season two trailer, the Joker’s personality seems to harken back to his original first appearance in Batman #1 from 1940. There, you can see how he is much different looking and acting from his later incarnations. Think less raving madman and more criminal mastermind. This Joker is also known as “The Criminal” as stated in Geoff Johns’ Three Jokers mini-series.

The Joker Victim

It is pretty cool that both Joker and Batman are so iconic that we can get these radically different interpretations of them. Or in Joker’s case- a return to his original form.

Batman: Caped Crusader season 2 comes out on Amazon Prime on July 31st.
