The Batman Part II announced yet again that its release date is getting pushed back to 2028.
The announcement was made by director Matt Reeves via mini-teaser trailer. The teaser is extremely short. It is only 36 seconds long, with 10 seconds of it is just black screen. In fact, it is bereft of dialogue, sound, or even a musical score played over the visuals.
What little footage it does show is of Robert Pattinson’s Batman being back in action. The shot is of Batman’s head. It is snowing around him and there is a police siren going off in the background.
The teaser then cuts to black with a new logo and a then the new release date: “2/18/2028”.
The History of Delays for ‘The Batman Part II’
The new release date delay marks the 4th-I think- time the movie’s debut is being pushed back. The sequel was initially set October 3, 2025. However, then it was pushed to October 2, 2026 and then most recently to October 1, 2027. There were never really any specific reasons for the delays other than Reeves needed time to complete the script. However, long-time Bat-Fans will recall that between The Batman‘s release in 2022 and now, there has been corporate takeovers, studio head changes, and actor and screenwriter strikes.
Now here we are in the middle of 2026 and looking forward to the movie in about 18 months from now.
Breaking Down the Teaser
But lets focus on the positives, shall we? The shot of Batman in the snow is as cool as heck. The last time a Batman movie had him in the snow was 1997’s Batman and Robin. This also falls into Matt Reeves’ teases of Part II, where he posted comic book images of Batman walking through the snow, as well as the Batmobile’s wheels in the snow.
There is a bright side of the new release date being in February. It would make thematically more sense if the movie that seems to be set in the winter time is also released in the winter time. Does anybody remember how weird it was when Batman Returns was set in Christmas, but released in the summer of 1992? This feels a little more consistent at least.
The new logo has a striking red logo over black background. This super resembles the Batman Beyond logo. However, sharp-eye viewers may notice that the tail of the Bat-logo seems to be cut off. No explanation why, but that is an interesting detail. We also get the Roman numerals “II” over the Bat-logo, which obviously means Part II.
Barring any other delays, The Batman Part II hits theaters February 18, 2028.
