The Eisner awarded DC Comics multiple wins, including Absolute Batman for”Best Continuing Series” and “Best Single Issue”.
The Eisner Awards ceremony took place on July 24th at San Diego Comic-Con. DC swept at the awards, taking home the most awards from any publisher: eight wins, plus two shared awards.
Absolute Batman took home two of those awards for “Best Continuing Series. The Absolute Batman Annual#1 by Daniel Warren Johnson won for “Best One-Shot/ Single Issue”. The hype around Absolute Batman cannot be disputed. The series is top-notch. Dark Knight News also agree on how amazing the series continues to be.
On the flip side, the Absolute Batman Annual #1 is also easily the best single issue comic in years. One would think that a comic about the secret origins of the Batmobile would be a bore. But writer/ artist Johnson took it to the next level. Batman fought a white supremacists group, in what could have been a one-note revenge story. But the issue also becomes a surprisingly emotionally-complex mediation of the use of violence. DC Wins at the Eisner Awards
Beyond Batman, DC also scored a bunch of other major Eisner wins with its other series. Absolute Martian Manhunter by Deniz Camp and Javier Rodriguez won for “Best Limited Series”. Rodriguez also won for “Best Penciller/Inker” and “Best Cover Artist”. Camp and Rodriguez will soon move over to the new ongoing Batman comic Batman: Shadow of the Bat.
DC Pride 2025 also won for “Best Anthology”. The ridiculously-hilarious Superman’s Pal, Jimmy Olsen: The Deluxe Edition by current Batman-writer Matt Fraction and artist Steve Lieber won “Best Graphic Album-Reprint”.
