A week ago, DC FanDome gave fans a plethora of exciting news and announcements. Whether it was the roll call of who’s who in The Suicide Squad, the trailers for Zack Snyder’s Justice League and The Batman, or the video game announcements of Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. There was plenty for fans to be excited about. Not to be excluded, Titans announced Season 3 will include the Red Hood, Barbara Gordon, and the Scarecrow.

Just like Dick Grayson made his inevitable evolution from Robin to Nightwing in Season 2, Jason Todd will be making the leap to Red Hood in the DC Universe exclusive. Historically, Red Hood was an identity used by the Joker before his chemical bath. After Jason Todd ws killed by the Joker, and later resurrected, he assumed the identity of Red Hood to punish Batman for not avenging his death.

Titans will be taking a different direction with the Red Hood’s origins. Rather than coming back from death at the hands of the Joker, Jason (played by Curran Walters) becomes obsessed with taking down his old team after their falling out at the end of Season 2.

Season 3 will also feature Barbara Gordon, who’s now the police commissioner of GCPD. This isn’t the first time an idea like this has been explored. In the animated series Batman Beyond, instead of being crippled by the Joker and becoming Oracle, and older Barbara Gordon took on her father’s mantle to become police commissioner. It seems this is the route Titans is taking.

The official character description reads:

Although she has a past relation with Dick Grayson, she is wary of the Titans now being in Gotham.

Titans executive producer Greg Walker had this to say during the DC FanDome panel, regarding Dick and Barbara’s relationship:

We’ve got the second generation coming up. There was originally Batman and Jim Gordon, and now we have Nightwing and Barbara Gordon trying to kind of deal with the mistakes of their parents, and it turns out to be a lot more difficult than anybody thought.

Helping the GCPD as a profiler, while still serving as an inmate at Arkham Asylum is Dr. Jonathan Crane, aka the Scarecrow.

Neither Barbara Gordon or the Scarecrow have been cast at this time.

The first two seasons of Titans is currently available on DC Universe and will also be coming to HBO Max. Season 3 was scheduled to debut in 2020, but has been postponed due to COVID-19.
