Article by Eric Lee

The Academy Awards have nominated Joker for a whopping 11 Oscar categories, including Best Picture and Best Actor.

The prestigious Oscar awards released their nomination list this morning with Joker dominating the nomination charts. Joker took in 11 nominations, the most of any movie this year. The film has nominations in Best Picture, Best Actor for Joaquin Phoenix, and Best Director for Todd Phillips. It also nabbed Cinematography, Adapted Screenplay, Film Editing, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, Original Score, Makeup and Hair, and Costume Design.

For Phoenix, the award for Best Actor is a very real possibility. Phoenix is fresh off of a Golden Globe win for the role. Historically speaking, actors and films that win big at the Golden Globe tend to also win at the Academy Awards.

Beyond Heath Ledger

Furthermore, Phoenix’s nomination makes it the second time an actor has been nominated playing the Joker. Heath Ledger famously won an Oscar as the Joker in The Dark Knight. Now it’s a matter of seeing if lightning can strike twice for this character.

The 92nd annual Oscars will broadcast February 9th.

Joker is now available for Digital Download, DVD and Blu-Ray.
