DC High Volume: Batman is a new scripted podcast series that features the most iconic Batman stories as audio dramas.

DC Comics is teaming-up with Realm to create this series. This is separate from the Spotify partnership of DC podcasts. The Spotify podcasts creates unique stories and sometimes re-creates the characters from the ground up. DC High Volume will directly adapt famous stories from the comics. They kick things off with an adaptation of Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli’s Batman: Year One storyline. The adaptation runs four episodes long.

‘Year One’ to ‘Long Halloween’ to ‘Dark Victory’

After Year One, the podcast drama will lead into adapting Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale’s Batman:  The Long Halloween and then its follow-up Dark VictoryBased on the podcast’s announced projects, it seems like they are creating one epic, linear story line that starts with Batman taking on the role of the Dark Knight to him adopting Robin as his partner.

At least that is the sense you get reading this extra-long synopsis that includes elements from all of the stories.

After traveling the world for over a decade following the death of his parents, Bruce Wayne returns to Gotham City to find crime and corruption running rampant in the place he calls home. Realizing Gotham City needs a hero, Bruce dons the cape and cowl for the first time, becoming the Batman. If Batman and new allies Lieutenant Jim Gordon and District Attorney Harvey Dent succeed in removing the criminal heads of Gotham City, who will replace them? A new face of villainy may appear, leading to a Long Halloween full of costumed criminals.

‘DC High Volume: Batman’ Voice Cast

On top of that, it seems the cast has a mix of seasoned voice actors and one or two stunt celebrity voices, like Kevin Smith as the Penguin. Check out the official list below.

The cast of DC High Volume: Batman  features Jason Spisak (Young Justice, Arcane) as Batman/Bruce Wayne, Jay Paulson (Mad Men, Catch-22) as Lt. James Gordon, Reba Buhr (Next Gen) as Catwoman/Seline Kyle, Adam O’Byrne (AMC’s Interview with the Vampire) as Harvey Dent/Two-Face, Mike Starr (Goodfellas, Ed Wood) as Carmine Falcone, Simon Vance (Bring Up the Bodies, Rod: The Autobiography of Rod Stewart) as Alfred Pennyworth, Dan Gill (Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension) as The Joker, Jesse Burch (Fall Out: New Vegas) as The Riddler, Michelle Lukes (Alexander, Strike Back) as Poison Ivy and Kevin Smith (Clerks, Dogma) as The Penguin.

Reaching Out to New People

This is all a part of the initiative to get more classic DC stories to a wider range of audiences who may not otherwise read comic books. The hope is that they can be engaged in the podcast. Then that can lead them to picking up the trade paperbacks of these great Batman comics.

DC’s general Manager Anne DePies hopes this initiative will open up comics to different people.

“DC is committed to creating new ways to reach a broader audience with engaging, accessible and high-production value adaptations of our most iconic and essential Batman comic stories, including the audio format. We want to offer audiences who may be new to DC a jumping on point for the Batman franchise, driving them back to our books, while engaging existing fans, podcast enthusiasts and audiobook listeners with direct adaptations that bring their favorite stories to life as faithfully as possible.”

At this moment, you can register for the launch day listening party on the DC Official Discord Server. What more fun can you have than listening to the podcast with fellow fans and commenting in real-time?
