The new trailer for season two of Batman: Caped Crusader showcased the new threats, including another tantalizing tease of the Joker.

As usual, the trailer gives so many cool flashes of new characters and plot lines for the second season of Caped Crusader.

This trailer really focuses on the Riddler being a major antagonist for Batman. What’s more the Riddler seems to have a fellow supervillain as the love interest. It’s not clear who she is. She is dressed in green, so many Bat-fans can speculate that this is Poison Ivy. However, she does not quite have a plant and leaves motif to her costume other than the green.

She could be one of the Riddler’s hench- women Query and Echo– who appeared in the 90’s briefly. However, I’m going to go out on a limb and say that this mysterious green-clad female is actually Rose and ThornCaped Crusader has already established trying to use more obscure Batman villains or characters who aren’t as strongly associated with the Dark Knight. Last season, Batman battled against the Gentleman Ghost, Onomatopoeia, and Nocturna. I think that Rose and Thorn- the female assassin with a split personality- would fit perfectly in the Caped Crusader line-up of villains.

Speaking of obscure Bat-villains, I think I also spotted the Mad Monk for a quick moment. The Mad Monk was one of Batman’s early Golden Age era villains, a cult leader who later revealed to be a vampire. But outside of modern retellings of the same story, Mad Monk has not really appeared in comics for a long time. If that truly is the Mad Monk, this would mark his animated debut. Score one of another obscure Bat-foe!

The J0ker’s Debut in ‘Batman: Caped Crusader’

Not to say that it is all minor Batman villains. The trailer ends with a chilling phone call between Batman and a shadowy Joker. Even though he is barely seen in the trailer, the Joker already looks and sounds wildly different from any other animated incarnation. His voice is low, cold, and calculating. The series is definitely harkening back to the Joker’s original appearance, when he not an over-the-top maniac madman. Looks good!
