Danny Elfman is returning to DC.
The acclaimed composer of Tim Burton’s Batman and Batman Returns has agreed to join the Justice League.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Elfman has come aboard just as additional photography begins with Joss Whedon behind the camera. For those who don’t remember, Zack Snyder left the project last month after a family tragedy, handing the keys to the DC universe over to Whedon.
Antonius Tom Holkenborg, aka Junkie XL, was attached to the film, coming off scoring Batman v Superman along with Hans Zimmer. According to THR, he will be moving on to work on Tomb Raider. Luckily, he made a statement that is both hilarious and heartfelt.
“As my mentor Hans Zimmer told me — you haven’t made it in Hollywood as a composer until you get replaced on a project. So I guess [I] finally graduated this week. It pains me to leave the project, but a big thanks to Zack for asking me to part of his vision, and I wish Danny, Joss and Warner Bros all the best with Justice League.”
In Good Hands
I fully respect Junkie XL and the amazing work he’s done (his Mad Max: Fury Road score is one of the best of recent memory). Who knows the reason for the shake-up, but if you need to replace him Elfman is a great Plan B. The guy has proven himself time and time again. Obviously, he’s known for his work with Burton, but he also has other superhero credibility. He worked with Sam Raimi on Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2, as well as with Whedon on Avengers: Age of Ultron. Elfman won’t disappoint.

Justice League is set for a November 17 release.
