Five Storylines We Want From ‘Young Justice’ Season 3

We did it DC fans! Give yourself a pat on the back. After all the support we as fans have given Young Justice on home video and Netflix, we are finally getting Season 3! Earlier this week, Warner Bros. Animation announced a new season for the fan favorite show that was cancelled far too soon. Besides a poster and the news that the show’s original producers Brandon Vietti and Greg Weisman are returning, we don’t have any information regarding the anticipated third season.  We still don’t have a platform or channel that it will be airing on nor do we know when we’ll be getting it, but this news has us excited nonetheless.

So after taking some time to pinch myself to reassure that this is real and think about it, here are some storylines I’d like Young Justice Season 3 to handle.

WARNING spoilers are ahead:

5) How is Artemis dealing with the loss of Wally?

One of the storylines throughout the 2 seasons of Young Justice was the tension and eventual romance between Wally West aka Kid Flash and Artemis. Starting as typical teenagers who annoyed each other, as Season 1 went on we as fans could see the tension build between them, until they finally gave into each other a New Year’s kiss in the Season 1 finale after saving the world from Vandal Savage and the Light.

When we revisit the heroes after the time jump into Season 2, we have learned that Wally and Artemis have left the team to live together and focus on their relationship without worrying about each other’s lives being in danger. What’s that saying? Once a hero always a hero? The team needs their help throughout the season, even faking Artemis’s death so she could infiltrate Black Manta’s operations. With the Earth once again in peril, this time from the alien race the Reach, it’s up to the speedsters Barry, Wally, and Bart to negate the doomsday machine by running counter to its energy flow. However, Wally wasn’t fast enough and disappeared before their very eyes.

The season ends with Bart Allen donning Wally’s suit to honor him as Kid Flash and Artemis suited up as her Tigress persona from her undercover mission, since Artemis was Wally’s partner and now he’s gone. Will we still see her fighting alongside her allies or is the guilt too much causing her to go solo? Also, did she find a new love interest since Wally’s apparent death? I’m sure many fans are wondering what’s going on with Arte– er…Tigress in Season 3.

4) Who is Under the Red Hood?

Between Seasons 1 and 2 is a time jump of about 5 years. We learned that Connor and Megan are no longer seeing each other. Wally and Artemis are no longer on the team. And Dick Grayson is now Nightwing with Tim Drake as Robin. There are also a few scenes throughout Season 2 in the Watchtower that shows a memorial room of fallen heroes, one of which is Jason Todd.

One of the greatest Batman stories of all time is Under the Red Hood, which sees the return of the dead Robin as the villain and eventual member of the Bat-Family, Red Hood. So I think a great side storyline for Season 3 should involve the Red Hood. He could be a mysterious thorn in Batman, Batgirl, Robin, and Nightwing’s sides throughout the first half of the season before finding out who he really is.

Then, the second half of the season could be them trying to help him until they all need to eventually team up for the greater threat at the end of the season (more on that later). With Wally’s death, Nightwing decided to leave the team at the end of Season 2, so this could act as a reason for him to rejoin.  This also gives them a reason to bring back the Joker, who we only saw in one episode throughout the first two seasons.

3) Are Megan and Connor Back Together?

A common theme throughout Young Justice is that these young superheroes like to get together. First, it was Connor and Megan in Season 1, then after they broke up Megan dated Lagoon Boy, and as Season 2 ended Wally’s death inspired Cassie aka Wonder Girl to ask Tim Drake out. This caused Connor and Megan to realize “life is short” and seemed ready to get back together until they were called into a mission briefing by Batman.

So this begs the question, will we see them together again in Season 3? Or will they remain one of those couples that can never seem to make it work?

2) Hail, Darkseid!

Season 2 ended in a huge cliffhanger that we can finally get an answer for. The last scene we thought we were ever going to get of YJ was Vandal Savage, the leader of the Light, boom tubing to Apokolips and allying himself with Darkseid. The question is, what is this relationship like?

Was Darkseid the mastermind behind everything in the previous seasons and we’re just learning that now? Or after being defeated twice by the Justice League, is Savage going to one of the most powerful beings in the DC Universe for help? Also, will we be seeing the effect of Darkseid and his army of Parademons early on in Season 3 or will it be a slow build up throughout the season?

This is also pretty great timing for WB and DC, since Darkseid is pretty clearly going to be the main antagonist in the DC Extended Universe on film, so having him as the main threat on TV as well will help viewers learn more about him.

1) Wally, Where Art Thou?

This is the main question many fans (myself included) were left wondering and were very bummed out we’d never get an answer to. Was Wally truly disintegrated, or was he somehow sucked into the Speed Force? I hope it’s the latter. I’d love to see flashes of him trying to reach out to his friends and allies throughout the season.

Maybe he is briefly able to manifest himself again to Artemis, trying to tell her he’s alive only to disappear again, causing a grieving Artemis to question whether or not it was real. Perhaps his time in the Speed Force could even unlock secrets to his power that will be the key to defeating Darkseid. There are many ways they can handle it, but please just let us have Wally back!

Those are just some of the highlighted stories I’d like to see for Young Justice Season 3. What are some storylines you’d like to see explored? Let us know!
