Brendan Fletcher, Batgirl co-writer, recently dropped some major hints at DragonCon.

“In 2016, it is going to be Barbara Gordon’s 50th anniversary as Batgirl,” he explained to Donna Dickens of Hitflix. “We’re all pushing for really incredible things to happen. One thing I can let you know is early in 2016 there will be an amazing status quo change — this sounds like such a cliche! But this is going to change the way the Bat-World works.”

It seems like a pretty major shake-up is on the way – not just for Barbara Gordon/Batgirl, but for the whole Bat-Family. But, what could Fletcher and the folks at DC have in mind for such a beloved character?

If nothing else, Barbara Gordon/Batgirl has proven to be a pliable character. One of the more tragic figures in comics, Babs has endured more heartache than most. The shocking loss of her mobility thanks to the Joker’s bullet in The Killing Joke has been forever etched into the comic mythos. However, Barbara endured – becoming Oracle and continuing to provide vital support and cyber-warfare capabilities to her fellow crimefighters.

More recently, Batgirl has experienced a reboot, regained her youth and ability to walk. She has been dubbed the “Batgirl of Burnside,” fighting crime in the ultra-hip suburb of Gotham. This youthful, tech-savvy, fashion-forward Batgirl is the latest in a long line of iterations of a favorite female character.

Take a look at the gallery below for a few looks Babs has sported over her 50 years!
