DC Studios previewed the first footage for the movie Clayface.
At CinemaCon in Las Vegas, DC Studios co-president Peter Safran presented the body horror film. Check out the description as reported by The Hollywood Reporter below.
The chilling footage, which did not include any dialogue, opens with a seemingly disfigured man with bloodied bandages covering his face. A montage of moments flashes back to show what led to this moment. The final scene features titular character, played by Tom Rhys Harries, using his hand to wipe his face clean and reveal a completely blank look.
We are definitely getting the origins of Clayface here. Harries’ performance as Matt Hagen seems to be tapping into that. This is not surprising since screenwriter Mike Flanagan reported that he was heavily influenced by the Batman: The Animated Series story arc “Feat of Clay”. We are getting flashes of that all over this footage.
Comparing the ‘Clayface’ Film Footage with ‘Feat of Clay’
Flanagan also promised body horror, which the preview is also hinting at. In the BTAS story line, Matt Hagen gets into a horrible car crash that disfigured his handsome actor looks. The bloodied bandages seem to indicate Hagen is still recovering from his accident. In “Feat of Clay”, Hagen hooks up with a shady business man named Daggett to give him a “miracle cream” that allows Hagen to smooth out his facial scars.

However, Daggett’s men causes Hagen to overdose on the miracle cream, causing him to turn into Clayface. The shot where Hagen’s face is disappearing seems to indicate the ill-effects of too much of the miracle cream. One can only imagine that the transformative effects gets worst from there.
Overall, the brief teases really seem to be enticing. I’m definitely excited to see what a full-on Clayface looks like on-screen.
Clayface hits theaters October 23, 2026.
