Review by James Attias
Batman and Robin #19 is a heart wrenching thrill ride that takes the dynamic duo to their limits… Let’s hallucinate in…
We’ll Be Together Then… Dad…
After a wonderful display of good parenting in the latest issue of Detective Comics… Bruce undoes all of that good work here, simply by trying to protect Damian. Worth noting as well, it’s a villain from Batman’s past that is plaguing Gotham. So Bruce’s ties to this one run deep. This nightmare is just getting started. There was a heartbreaking line in this issue that Damian says, I’ll talk about it in my next review, but loyal readers I want you to know… It hurt.
Nightmares and Dark Nights
As well as giving us a gripping emotional thrill ride, the creative team spoiled us this time around, a murderer running wild in Gotham, hallucinating Batman, Car chases, plane chases, explosions! It was like watching Michael Bay on crack! Two thumbs up to the artists. And a crisp high five to the writer. Very little to improve upon in this issue. If I had to find a tiny minute detail, I’d say sharper edges on the drawings to help differentiate from reality and hallucination, but that may have been intentional.
Conclusion
Batman and Robin #19 is an adrenaline fueled thrill, injected with some emotional damage. FUN!
