After months of patiently waiting, fans finally got their first look at James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad last week when he released a red band trailer for the film. Less than a week later, another trailer, titled “Rebellion,” has hit the airwaves, with more new footage. This one, however, is more theater friendly. Check out out:

It’s crazy to think that we live in a society where Polka Dot Man is seemingly a main character in a DC movie, yet here we are. If he’s not a main character, then he’s certainly heavily featured in both the trailers we’ve received thus far.

King Shark continues to feel like he’s going to be the “Groot” of this film. The lovable non-human character that kicks butt. Recently, Gunn explained why he decided to go with the Great White shark design, over the sometimes used Hammerhead look, as seen in the comics.

Is Starro Truly The Big Bad?

Starro's very first appearance in comics

One thing that both trailers have in common is that they both feature Starro, in what appears to be the climactic scene of the film. Starro the Conqueror first appeared in Brave and the Bold #28 and was the very first villain that the Justice League of America fought together.

Thanks to this alien invader’s ability to regenerate, he’s been a thorn in the JLA’s side for decades.

Obviously, in the DCEU, the Justice League’s first battle was against Steppenwolf and his Parademon army. So it’s interesting that DC and James Gunn elected to use him for the Suicide Squad’s second appearance. Which circles back to my initial question; is Starro truly the main villain? Or was he released by someone as a distraction? Guess we’ll have to wait to see the movie to find out!

What are your thoughts on either of the trailers we received? Do you like the direction that Gunn is taking the Suicide Squad in? How do you think this film looks, compared to David Ayer’s Suicide Squad? Let us know!

The Suicide Squad debuts in theaters and on HBO Max on August 6th.
