With New York Comic Con being one of the biggest conventions in the world of pop culture and comic book gatherings, there was already plenty to look forward to. Now, it has been announced that Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders will be making its world premiere and we will be getting our first official look at the animated film Justice League Dark.
Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders brings back Adam West, Burt Ward, and Julie Newmar as their classic iterations of Batman, Robin, and Catwoman respectively from the 1960s TV show. Much like the 1966 movie Batman featuring these same actors, the plot revolves around Joker, Penguin, Riddler, and Catwoman collaborating to take over Gotham City and it’s up to Batman and Robin to stop them. Not many franchises can bring back actors 50 years later to reprise their roles, so this movie should be something special to any Batman fan.
The world premiere of Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders will be on Thursday, October 6th at 5:30 p.m. and will be followed by a Q&A with producer Sam Register, Adam West, director Rick Morales and co-writers/producers Michael Jelenic and James Tucker. The movie is also a receiving a one-day theatrical release on October 10th, and is available the next day from your preferred Digital provider. The DVD and Blu-Ray hits shelves on November 1st.
Adam West recently celebrated his 88th birthday and is STILL donning the (animated) cowl. Cheers to you, Mr. West.
On Saturday, October 8th, Justice League Dark will have a featured panel with voice stars Matt Ryan (Constantine) and Jason O’Mara (Batman) along with director Jay Oliva, producer James Tucker, and character designer Phil Bourassa. Although there have been rumors and rumblings of a Justice League Dark live-action film being in development for a few years now, this will be the first onscreen adaptation of the team, which includes Zatanna, Deadman, Swamp Thing, Constantine, and Batman.
As a part of the New 52 launch in 2011, Justice League Dark brought together the DC Universe’s supernatural heroes to take on villains and problems outside of the traditional JLA’s expertise. Although not originally a member of the JLD team, it will be interesting how they connect Batman to these characters in the animated feature. Is he the one who decides to bring them together or is he an active member of the team with his detective skills and intellect? Justice League Dark is set to release in 2017.
