There’s been a lot of casting news lately for 2016’s Suicide Squad film, Margot Robbie’s going to be playing Harley Quinn, Jared Leto has been offered The Joker and Tom Hardy’s being courted for Rick Flag. But the newer news today is that Jai Courtney is also being eyed for a role in the film, likely Digger Hawkins aka Captain Boomerang. Courtney, who you may have seen in Divergent and the most recent Die Hard movie, is an upcoming star with a lot of potential to pull off the role of one of The Flash’s more iconic rogues.
It hasn’t been confirmed that Jai Courtney is being looked at as Digger or not yet though, which is leading many, including myself to speculate that he could also possibly be up for the role of Floyd Lawton aka Deadshot (a still unfilled role) or perhaps a completely different character that we aren’t at this point aware of. Personally I think Captain Boomerang makes for more sense as Jai Country is a born Australian. Courtney is already portraying Kyle Reese in the next Terminator movie and set to star in Divergent‘s upcoming sequel, so Suicide Squad would make for a full roster of franchise movies for the 28 year old, and could potentially elevate his star to A or B list status given a Captain Boomerang spinoff (at this point, why not?).
But we won’t know just yet if this is anything more than a rumour or not, but we do know that we’ll be seeing Suicide Squad in 2016, with or without Courtney.
