DC Studios greenlit Dynamic Duo– an animated feature spotlighting Dick Grayson and Jason Todd.

The two future-Robins will star in the movie before they become a part of Batman’s crimefighting team. Reportedly, it will focus on the two clashing personalities of the boys.  The film will be a collaboration between DC Studios, Warner Bros. Picture Animation, and a stop-motion animation studio Swaybox. The studio Swaybox has utilized the unique “Momo animation” technique- which combines CGI, stop-motion, and live-action real-time performance.

James Gunn made the official announcement via X (formerly known as Twitter).

The Team Attached to Create ‘Dynamic Duo’

Gunn will join DC Studios other president Peter Safran, The Batman director Matt Reeves, and Swaybox co-founder Theresa Andersson as producers on the film project. Michael Uslan will executive produce.

The other Swaybox co-founder Arthur Mintz will direct.  Matthew Aldrich of Pixar fame will write the script. Reeves gave a statement that expressed how excited he is for the unique storytelling opportunities that Swaybox could provide for this movie.

“I have wanted to make a film with Arthur [Mintz] and Swaybox for many years, and for that film to be Dynamic Duo, an incredibly special and unique Batman and Robin story for families, is a dream.”

It should be noted that Dynamic Duo is not a part of the continuity of Reeves’ The Batman or The Penguin franchise. However, it remains to be seen if it will be an official part of James Gunn’s new DC canon. The Gunn DC Universe contains notable projects, like the animated Creatures Commandos and the more traditional live-action Superman Legacy movie.

There is no official production date or release date for the movie. Keep checking in with Dark Knight News as we get more updates to this film!
