Just a few months ago, we literally knew nothing about Matt Reeves’ The Batman. Now, the floodgates have opened and we have updates coming out practically every week. The one piece of news that everyone was clamoring to know was who would be our Batman, and in June, Robert Pattinson was announced. Also, we got an even better name pun: Battinson. There’s also RBattz. Or Rob the Bat? No, that one was bad. In a huge torrent of news, we found out this week that Zoe Kravitz will be Catwoman and Paul Dano the Riddler. Need more? As of yesterday, we know who will compose the score for The Batman, and he’s no slouch. It’s Oscar-winning composer Michael Giacchino.
On Friday, Giacchino was performing at Royal Albert Hall in London. Reeves made a surprise appearance on stage. He got down on one knee and asked Giacchino if he’d score The Batman. Unfortunately, for everyone involved, it was awkward. Fortunately, for all Bat-fans, he said yes.
He said yes!

There you have it, Michael Giacchino will compose the score for The Batman. Let’s run through his resume. As a huge Disney-Pixar fan, I knew Giacchino from his work on The Incredibles, Ratatouille, and Up. All of which are pretty beautiful scores. A frequent collaborator of Matt Reeves, working on Cloverfield, Let Me In, and the last two films of the Planet of the Apes reboot series. No stranger (unintentional, but fantastic foreshadowing pun) to superhero movies, working on Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange and the Marvel Studios-produced Spider-Man flicks. Yes, he’s pretty damn prolific and I’m personally excited to see what he comes up with for The Batman.
Also, what’s cool is that this is what Giacchino wanted… in 2017.
The Batman will hit theatres on June 25, 2021.
