Clayface is starting to gain more semblance of the plot with its first teaser poster and images on their social media.

The images include a handful magazine covers. However, the covers are all liquefied- which hints at Clayface’s eventual power set. Fortunately, the covers are still readable- which definitely fills out the plot of the film.

‘A Face You Won’t Forget’

The first cover is the fictional entertainment magazine that features at rising stars in Hollywood. The cover is of Tom Rhys Harries’ Matt Hagen. The Instagram post caption says “A face you won’t forget.”

‘Healing You From the Inside Out’

The next cover is the scientific journal “Gotham Medical” The medical journal has a feature article about “The New Face of Regenerative Medicine” Obviously, this is the plot device that turns Hagen into Clayface. However, the question remains if this new regenerative medicine is backed by corrupt businessman Roland Daggett- like how it was in the Batman: The Animated Series “Feat of Clay”. Alternatively, it can be completely unrelated to Daggett.

‘Get. Well. Soon’

The final teaser image shows the newspaper “Gotham Gazette”. The headline states: “Actor Matt Hagen Brutally Attacked!” This might be the biggest departure from Clayface’s BTAS origin story, as it changes the way he becomes disfigured. In “Feat of Clay”, Hagen suffers injuries from a car accident. However, in the film, it seems that he is attacked and permanently scarred. One wonders why Hagen was attacked- was he targeted or just a victim of being in the wrong place at the wrong time?

We finally get the film’s first poster. It is a simple image of Hagen screaming upward with his mouth unnaturally elongated and melting into itself. No doubt this movie is pure body horror.

Clayface hits theaters October 23rd.
