Review by Sharna Jahangir

We are in boring adventure. Bizzaro involved? Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #41 Issue is Awful!

Of course, that’s what heroes on this awkward world would think!

Robin is searching for Batman, while he runs into some trouble. Superman, Batman and Robin have awoken in an imperfect world and they have no idea how they got here. One would think, maybe this would be an amusing wonderland to be in. But no, it’s a dangerous place to be as it’s full of imperfect, awkward duplicates of the DC Universe team. Join them on their mission to figure out what in Bizarro’s name is going on!

The Story

Mark Waid continues to deliver creative stories, and this one is an absolute delight, packed with action, fun, and the kind of offbeat energy that makes his work so endlessly entertaining. His take on Bizarro World is captivating, a topsy-turvy realm where logic is delightfully inverted, and every moment keeps you guessing. The lines in the story makes you think for a minute. The characters who populate this bizarre landscape offer a fantastically  enjoyable insight into their twisted perspectives, making each interaction a riotous puzzle to unravel.

The dialogue crackles with humor and cleverness, forcing your brain to flip expectations on their head—just when you think you’ve got a handle on Bizarro-speak, another hilariously backwards line pulls the rug out from under you. It’s the kind of writing that keeps you grinning, constantly wondering, “Wait, what are they really thinking?”

And then there’s the World’s Finest team, Superman and Batman, who shine even brighter with Robin in the mix. Their dynamic here is fun to see, reminding me of their adventures of the 1941 issues where Superman often teamed up with the Dynamic Duo. Waid perfectly balances camaraderie and heroics, making every page a joy to read.

The Art

Adrián Gutiérrez and Matt Herms do an excellent job in the artwork. Each page is captivating. As a major fan of the World’s Finest team-up, I love how Gutiérrez draws Batman and Superman, the Bizarro characters are just as well-designed, for being so disfigured version of the heroes. His artwork is a great complement to Mark Waid’s storytelling. As a major fan of the World’s Finest team-up, I’m impressed of how Gutiérrez captures the essence of these iconic heroes. His Batman is all brooding intensity, draped in shadows yet radiating power, while his Superman embodies hope and strength, his presence leaping off the page with vibrant energy. Together, they look wonderful and classic.

But where Gutiérrez shines is in his rendition of the Bizarro characters. These twisted, disfigured versions of the heroes could easily fall into monstrous designs, but in his hands, they’re a bit unsettling yet strangely captivating. Every distorted muscle, every jagged line, and every off-kilter expression reinforces the eerie, inverted logic of Bizarro World.

Matt Herms is an excellent colorist, and does a great job adding to the brooding Bat and the heroic, hopeful Supes. His colors are vibrant, which makes for captivating pages. It’s certainly a treat for the eyes!

Conclusion

I’m adoring the story so far, the dialogue is enjoyable, there’s a mystery involved for our brooding detective, and I am excited to see more of Bizarro Bats! Whenever Robin joins in the World’s Finest stories, I feel like the family is back together again. This story doesn’t just hook you, it reels you in with zany world-building, and the kind of nostalgic charm that reminds you why you fell in love with these characters in the first place. Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #41 is definitely a must-read for World’s Finest fans.
