Warner Bros. Japan has revealed that a sequel to Batman Ninja is on its way.
Batman Ninja was a 2018 feature that featured our favorite characters with anime designs. The original film had Batman, the Joker, Harley Quinn, and their various allies transported to feudal Japan by Gorilla Grodd, of all people. There they adapted the costumes and weaponry of Samurai times.
The follow-up will be titled Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League. According to the film’s website, Japanese voice actor Koichi Yamadera will return as the Japanese voice of Batman. However, it’s unclear if Roger Craig Smith will also return as the Dark Knight’s English voice.
Junpei Mizusaki is also returning to direct the sequel, and Shinji Takagi will join as a co-director with Mizusaki. Kazuki Nakashima is the screenwriter and Takashi Okazaki is in charge of character design.
Warner Bros has not revealed much of the plot yet and we don’t know if the sequel will connect any storylines from the previous film. It seems rather unlikely since it was a time-travel adventure and the sequel sounds like it’s set closer to the present day. However, Anime Expo 2024, will host a panel that will feature the animated sequel and DC’s other anime project Suicide Squad Isekai. This is set for July 4th.
Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League has no release date yet.
