View Count of ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’ Nearly Doubles from Opening Weekend

Zack Snyder’s Justice League has been out since March. While not quite as mainstream as Avengers: Endgame, it was similarly a milestone in cinema history. It was just a big win for comic book fans and of course, Snyder himself.  He finally got to make the movie that he mostly intended to make. While we never received official numbers from HBO Max, it seemed like it was a success. Since then, however, we’re finding out that the #SnyderCut view count may have doubled since its opening.

The Numbers

We all know the story by now, right? Snyder left the production of Justice League just a few months from release, in which time Warner Bros. and Joss Whedon butchered the movie, resulting in a very divisive flick. When it was discovered that this wasn’t the movie that Snyder wanted, fans campaigned for three years, pushing WB and then AT&T to let Snyder realize his true vision for the film. In 2020, it finally happened. Warner Bros. broke the Internet by relenting and letting Snyder finish his movie. We eventually got the four-hour epic that you see today.

When the #SnyderCut was released, we all kind of assumed it was a success, right? HBO Max promoted it, but never really provided any official numbers. It’s slowly been swept under the rug in favor of newer releases like Godzilla vs Kong and Mortal Kombat. It seems that a third-party data analytics company called Samba TV managed to get their hands on some numbers and discovered that 1.5 million HBO Max subscribers viewed the flick on its opening weekend. Apparently, only a third of those viewers finished the movie. Unfortunately, that’s considerably lower than the other big HBO Max releases, most notably Wonder Woman 1984‘s 2.2 million views. So far the other 2021 HBO Max releases have garnered more than 3 million views on their respective opening weekends.

Almost Double the View Count

If we were to believe these numbers, then we know that’s not great news. Figures like these are a big factor in whether or not a future in this franchise is pursued. While we did already know that WB isn’t interested in moving forward on any more DC movies with Snyder, these numbers certainly put the nail in the coffin.

However, it seems that Samba TV decided to do a recount and discovered some fairly good news for the Snyder loyalists. Since its opening on HBO Max, the company found that the view count has nearly doubled.

Good news, right? It means that, while subscribers didn’t really have the time to check out the movie, they’ve since gone back to watch it. Personally, I’m just happy people are revisiting, and enjoying it. With everything that happened with Snyder, I’d say it’s pretty important people get to see what he intended. However, I’m pretty sure those getting behind the #RestoretheSnyderverse movement will find hope in these numbers, despite WB’s clear decision.

What do you think? Do you think these results could affect WB’s decision to renew talks with Snyder? Or do you think that these figures don’t really make a difference? Let me know.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League is currently streaming on HBO Max in the US.
