DC comics released their offering of comics for the Free Comic Book Day event for fans of young and old.

DC Superhero Girls: Date with Disaster

The first title is from DC’s Superhero Girls title for younger readers. The Free Comic Book Day selection is one of the chapters from DC Superhero Girls: Date with Disaster graphic novel. The official solicitation states the Superhero Girls will investigate a mysterious explosion at S.T.A.R. Labs. But nobody cares about that. We are really here to read about Commissioner Gordon going on a date. Who is his date? Sarah Essen, perhaps? Even crazier, apparently Amanda Waller is going out on the town with Deadshot. Now that date is bound to have – dare I say – explosive results.
Catwoman is out on the prowl one night when kaboom! An explosion at S.T.A.R. Labs rouses the heroes from their slumber. Star students Batgirl and Lois Lane both know the lab incident is fishy, and they meet later to share clues. But nothing could’ve prepared Batgirl for what they see next: Batgirl’s dad out on a date! Batgirl is grossed out until her friends convince her that dads get lonely, too. And with the school dance coming up and everyone pairing off—heck, even Principal Waller has a date with a guy called Deadshot—maybe it’ll be okay. The girls place a personal ad for Commissioner Gordon while they delve deeper into the mystery surrounding the explosion, but they’re about to discover more than who is behind the attack on S.T.A.R. Labs. Could it be that posting an ad looking for dates for the commissioner is like advertising catnip for criminals?

DC Nation #0

By Jorge Jimenez

DC Nation is technically not a Free Comic Book Day title since the physical paper copy costs 25 cents and will be released on May 2nd. But before crying foul on DC for false advertising, the comic boasts of all-star talent and original stories and will be free in its digital format. Tom King will pen the prelude to the Catwoman and Batman wedding. Brian Michael Bendis is set to have a preview of his upcoming Man of Steel Superman relaunch. Finally, Scott Snyder, James Tynion IV, and Joshua Williamson will showcase Justice League: No Justice, the book that will kickstart Snyder’s Justice League run.
For those titles and more, check your local comic book shop on Free Comic Book Day on May 5th.
