New fan film, Ripper, features Batman roaming the streets of late 19th century London.
A new Batman story is coming to life in Hartlepool, United Kingdom. Producer, Adam Bouabda, and Writer/Director, James Campbell, are set to release their fan film later this September.
The official description from their website reads:
London, 1888 and the Ripper murders are gripping the country. The people of Whitechapel are afraid to walk the streets at night and the police are no closer to cracking the case. Chief Inspector Abberline leads the investigation and with pressure from above to catch the killer, his own demons start to get the better of him…
What Abberline doesn’t know is that there is someone out there who wants to help.
Someone in the shadows…. watching…. waiting to strike.
‘There’s worse things out there than Jack the Ripper.’
The trailer and premise reminds me of the Brian Augustyn and Mike Mignola story Batman: Gotham by Gaslight. However, the Ripper crew promises an original Batman tale.
Here are some behind the scenes photos from Ripper:
Now, 127 years ago, “Jack the Ripper” became real-life legend as the name attributed to a suspected serial killer in the East End of London between late August and early November, 1888. Authorities never caught the “Ripper” and the five murdered women were never brought to justice. Placing Batman in the midst of a legendary, real-life, unsolved mystery is intriguing.
In September, fans will be able to decide whether this original tale is worthy of the Batman!
