Batman may be an idea, for but for a lot of people, Batman IS Christian Bale. The raspy voice, the charming Bruce Wayne persona, and the suit, all helped define an era of Bat-fans view of the Dark Knight. This might be a reason for the negative reception to Ben Affleck’s taking up the cowl, partly because he was simply not Christian Bale. So what about Bale’s reaction laying down the mantle and letting someone else taking over? What does Bale think now that he’s no longer Batman, but Ben Affleck is?
I’ve got to admit initially, even though I felt that it was the right time to stop, there was always that bit of me going, ‘Oh go on… Let’s do another….So when I heard there was someone else doing it, there was a moment where I just stopped and stared into nothing for half an hour. But I’m 40. The fact that I’m jealous of someone else playing Batman…. I think I should have gotten over it by now. I haven’t spoken with Ben, but I emailed him offering bits of advice that I learned the hard way. I would imagine he is doing everything he can to avoid doing anything I did
Even Bale seems to be slightly depressed that he’s not Batman anymore. However it seems that he’s willing to accept this new heir to the Cowl, even trying to give him some advice. Still, there’s some melancholy on his part that he is not the caped crusader anymore. Perhaps less so than the general public’s melancholy and disappointment he’s not Batman, but some.
