Seriously, the grappling gun never gets old.

Seriously, the grappling gun never gets old.

Rumor time! Now I’m a big gamer, I love video games. I also love me some Batman. So when you put the two together, you get something that to me, is like peanut butter and chocolate. They go together so well and you can ‘t get enough of it. Growing up in the 90s, I loved the old NES and SNES Batman video games, but a Batman video game did not really blow me away until Batman: Arkham Asylum and then again with Batman: Arkham City. Simply put, the Arkham series makes me feel like I’m really playing as Batman, and so I’m eagerly awaiting the next installment so I can sit in my room playing as Batman using a grapple gun on everything and everyone in sight until 3 in the morning. That said, according to French game site, Gameblog.fr, the new Arkham game is coming out soon, on current gen and next gen consoles.

Allegedly, this information comes from an anonymous tip from the game game industry, that they are releasing the game this year for not only PS3 and Xbox 360, but for the new PS4 and successor to the Xbox 360. About a year ago, there was an article in Variety that the new game would be based in the Silver Age, and involve the Justice League, depicting Batman’s first meeting with his arch-nemesis, the Joker. According to Gameblog.fr, the game will be revealed during this year’s E3. Now, I take all rumors with a grain of salt, especially from french blogs that I have no hope of reading without Google Translate, but Time Warner did reveal in an an earning call last month that we’d be getting a Batman game this year.

I think adding the Justice League and expanding Batman’s past in this similar but different universe is a really great idea,, because it further continues the expansion of the world that the Arkham games seem to be increasing each game,  from the Asylum, to a large section of Gotham City which is fashioned into the Arkham City prison.  Sadly, Mark Hamill is retired from the Joker’s voice, so I suppose he won’t be back for this prequel if the Joker does show up.  There’s also the reports coming in that Rocksteady isn’t working on this one, that fills me with a paranoid feeling that the game might not be as good as it could be.  We’ll see in about two and a half month’s time, as E3 is happening June 11th through the 13th.
