Everyday, it seems like the DC Extended Universe is slowly becoming more and more the Batman Extended Universe. After Wonder Woman and Justice League hit theaters this year, the only DC film that is for sure slated with a release date is Aquaman, which is currently filming.
We already know that Matt Reeves will be directing and working on the solo Batman film, the LEGO Batman director Chris McKay is in talks for a Nightwing film, Suicide Squad (which had mostly Batman characters) director David Ayer is working on a Gotham City Sirens film, and last week Joss Whedon was announced as the director of a Batgirl film.
With all four of these films in some capacity being worked on, rumors started circulating that they would all be released in 2019 to coincide with the 80th anniversary of Batman’s creation.
WB Executive Jon Berg, co-runner of DC Films with Geoff Johns, put the rumors to bed earlier this week. In a tweet, Berg asks Johns why he was never informed of the 4 Batman film slate, and why not go ahead and make it 10? Johns then jests back saying it’s actually going to be 27, including Batmite: The Movie.

While Batman mythology is full of some of the greatest stories and characters in history, let’s not forget there is plenty of other characters and stories in the DC well they can fill 2019 with, including a proper Man of Steel sequel, Black Adam with Dwayne Johnson, finding a director for The Flash, along with sequels to Wonder Woman, Justice League, and Suicide Squad.
While I’m sure Batman fans are disappointed to this news, the bright side is it looks like they will be spacing these films out so we can get Batfamily films for years to come, alongside the other parts of the DC Universe.
