Former-Batman actor Christian Bale has revealed what it would take for him to return to playing Batman.
The actor took the time to address all rumors of ever suiting up as Batman with a firm “No”. He even jokes how the rumors of him returning to the Batman role are news to even him.
No, no one’s ever mentioned it to me. No one’s brought it up. […] Occasionally people say to me, “Oh, I hear you were approached and offered all this.” And I’m like, “That’s news to me. No one’s ever said that.”
The Only Reason for Christian Bale to Return
Not to say it will never, ever happen. Bale reported that he would return to the role with one very specific stipulation.
He played Batman in Christopher Nolan’s highly-acclaimed Dark Knight trilogy, a franchise reported to always having been meant as a three-movie arc. However, he revealed that him and Nolan made a promise to each other that if Nolan personally asked him to return, then Bale would suit up again as Batman.
I had a pact with Chris Nolan. We said, “Hey, look. Let’s make three films, if we’re lucky enough to get to do that. And then let’s walk away. Let’s not linger too long.” In my mind, it would be something if Chris Nolan ever said to himself, “You know what, I’ve got another story to tell.” And if he wished to tell that story with me, I’d be in.
It’s not the craziest idea for Bale to return. We know that other former-Batman Michael Keaton is appearing as the Dark Knight in in multiple film projects. Is it that far out for Bale to do something similar? Perhaps when more time has past, he might change his mind.
