‘Peacemaker’ First Footage Released by HBO Max

In a blink and you’ll miss it promo, HBO Max released the first footage of the upcoming sequel show Peacemaker. It’s genuinely only a few seconds long and is mixed in with the other peeks at HBO Max originals. The video opens with a shot of John Cena from behind, shirtless, although that’s literally just a second. If you want the slightly juicier stuff with dialogue, you’ll find it about 30 seconds in.

Why are you in your costume?”, “This is a uniform.”

In these few seconds, returning character Emilia Harcourt (Jennifer Holland) gapes at Peacemaker and asks, “Why are you in your costume?” Peacemaker only snidely replies, “This is a uniform.”

The rest of Peacemaker‘s first footage shows Cena’s character yelling (inaudibly) as he fires off multiple rounds from different guns into a cement block in the shape of a peace sign. The most interesting part of that sequence is, of course, the symbol chosen by the character, as well as the stances he chooses to shoot in. Peacemaker even lets off one shot while bent over and fires from between his legs (I’m thoroughly glad this isn’t a euphemism).

Honestly, there’s not much more to unpack here from this brief promo. Hopefully, future videos will reveal more about the upcoming show. James Gunn’s sequel show is due for release at the end of the year, however, so it’s not too long to wait.

The Suicide Squad is still in theaters and Peacemaker will be released on HBO Max at the end of 2021.
