The DC Animated original film Batman Azteca: Clash of Empires is now available to watch on HBOMax.

Batman Azteca is the long-developing animated feature that crosses Batman with Meso-American culture. Yohualli Coatl instead of Bruce Wayne. Here, Yohualli is a young Aztec boy during the reign of the Aztec Empire when the Spanish conquistadors start to invade.

Warner Bros. Animation and local Latin American studios, like Particular Crowd, Mexico’s Anima, and Chatrone collaborate to create the film.

Batman Azteca: Clash of Empires finally released on HBO Max and in Mexican theaters by Cinépolis Distribución on September 18, 2025.

‘Batman Azteca’ Trailer and Preview

You can check the trailer out here for a preview. There is some truly insane visuals and mash-ups in here. We figured that Yohualli will turn into a Batman-esque figure to fight the Spanish conquistadors. However, we are also treated to origins to multiple rogues gallery member including Catwoman, Poison Ivy, Catwoman,  the Joker and Two-Face. I don’t think it is an exaggeration to say that the Joker is truly disturbing to look at.

Interestingly, the Joker and Two-Face seem to spawn from the Spanish Conquistadors and are clearly very villainous and evil. On the other hand, we see Aztec versions of Catwoman and Poison Ivy- who appear to be more allies than foes. This is quite unexpected for Poison Ivy in particular, who typically is more self-serving.

If that trailer is not enough to make you watch the full film, there is also an extended clip of Two-Face versus Batman. It is Yohualli’s first outing as Batman and he is doing everything he can to sabotage the conquistador’s camp site.

Not only do we see Yohalli suit up as Batman, as well as a Two-Face and Batman sword fight, but we also see how cruel Two-Face can be towards his men.

Batman Azteca: Clash of Empires is now streaming on HBO Max in America. The Spanish-language version Batman Azteca: Choque De Imperios is now playing in theaters in Mexico.
