Yesterday, action star Sylvester “The Italian Stallion” Stallone broke the Internet when he revealed that he was working with James Gunn on The Suicide Squad. In a now-deleted Instagram video, Stallone filmed himself on his way to see James Gunn to do some work on the upcoming reboot/sequel. Stallone provided nothing but praise for the flick, calling it a “spectacular effort.” Following the video’s removal, we were left fairly confused about whether or not Stallone had simply had a senior moment  (the man is 74 after all! It’s crazy how phenomenal he looks. At 31, I wish I could look like Stallone at 74.) Soon after, James Gunn jumped on Instagram to confirm that Sylvester Stallone has been cast in The Suicide Squad.

Personally, I’m a big fan of directors who continually cast the same actors in different movies. It gives me the impression that the director is an incredibly cool, down to earth guy that people just love working with. Gunn, of course, is one of those directors. Michael Rooker and Nathan Fillion are a couple of examples (national treasures) who have been cast in TSS, and are seemingly regulars on Gunn’s sets, and it now looks like the action icon Stallone may be another fixture. Hopefully. I mean, he unexpectedly cropped up in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which shook me upon first watch.

Following Stallone’s IG post, Gunn eventually took to IG and posted a photo with Stallone, confirming the crazy casting news.

Stallone is in the DC Universe!

As expected, the role remains undisclosed, but it’s likely it’s not a huge one. Stallone is main cast or bust, right? I would have preferred this was left a secret, but I suppose Stallone let the cat out of the bag. Classy as all heck, Gunn simply embraced it and ran with it. In the end, Stallone’s intentions were good, as he was praising the hell out of Gunn and the movie. You can’t be to upset about that. Plus, it’s Stallone! He’s Rocky Balboa, man.

Did you ever imagine that Sylvester Stallone would be cast in The Suicide Squad? Me neither, but after his turn Starhawk in GotG Vol. 2, anything’s possible.

The Suicide Squad hits theatres on August 6, 2021.
