It has been 1,873 days since Rocksteady’s last game, Batman: Arkham Knight, was released. In that time, Batman v Superman and Justice League were released. Zack Snyder was fired…ahem…stepped away from DC and WB. Matt Reeves announced The Batman. Ben Affleck stepped down from the role and Robert Pattinson was cast. The post-Snyder DCEU 2.0 released successful movies. Oh, and Zack Snyder is back for Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Now, at long last, Rocksteady has announced a Suicide Squad game.

As you can see, the teaser poster shows Superman with cross-hairs on his head that spell out “Suicide Squad.” If that wasn’t subtle enough, they included the hashtag #suicidesquadgame. Fans will have to wait until the DC FanDome event for more information.
An Idea 7 Years In The Making
The idea of a Suicide Squad game was teased way back in WB Games Montreal’s Batman: Arkham Origins in 2013. A prequel to Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham trilogy, the game included an end credits scene of Amanda Waller recruiting Slade Wilson aka Deathstroke to the team.
Details of the game are still unclear. Judging by the poster however, the assumption is the player will be hunting down the Justice League as the Suicide Squad. However, whether you’ll be controlling one character, or play multiple characters throughout the game, is unclear. Also unclear, is if the game will be a single player game or, given the team based nature of the Squad, if it will include multiplayer elements.
An interesting note, is in DC FanDome’s teaser of celebrities joining the event, Troy Baker is listed. Baker has voiced both Batman in the two seasons of Batman: The Telltale Series, as well as the Joker in Arkham Origins and both the Dark Knight AND the Clown Prince of crime in the Batman/Turtles animated movie. If this Suicide Squad game does connect with the Origins credits scene, I think fans can expect his return as the Joker.
However, we’ll just have to wait until August 22nd to know more. Regardless, it’s exciting to have a Rocksteady DC game in the works! Are you ready to re-enter the DC Universe in a Rocksteady game? Let us know!
