“Let It All Out”

I am really starting to love this comic, I was especially excited for this issue after writer, Adam Glass, shared a preview of the cover on Twitter. The cover itself is equal parts creatively beautiful and creatively foreshadowing. It highlights the obvious flaws of the group but also gives you a heads up, as to what to expect in the pages ahead.

There’re a lot of developing relationships in here; Damian and D’Jinn, Red Arrow and Crush and a funny but heartbreaking section with Kid Flash and Roundhouse. We see a lot of the character’s backstories being fleshed out, too. It’s great writing from Adam, as he really makes you care about the team and with D’Jinn in particular. We’ve been eagerly waiting to know more about the mysterious figure, I know I have. We finally get answers and they are shocking!
Elsewhere we get to see tone shift with Kid Flash headed to Roundhouse’s Mother’s for a meal. What ensues is hilarious and a great way of breaking up the issue’s darker elements. Although the scene does end with the aforementioned heartbreaking moment, overall it’s a very funny piece of conversation amongst the characters.
We close up with Damian and D’jinn and things are starting to heat up between the two and then Bam! … DEATHSTROKE!
Conclusion
Overall I think this was great issue. It followed up well from the brilliant Teen Titans Annual #1 and I really feel the team are getting comfortable with this run. Adams’ writing continues to amaze me, I’m in love with Bernard’s art, which Marcelo Maiolo’s colors compliment perfectly. Marcelo really nailed the darker scenes, as you can see above in the preview art.
I’m excited for what lies ahead and now more so, after the excellent Deathstroke teaser ending.
