Finally, the news we have all been waiting for! The CW has given a pilot order to Batwoman. After rumors that Batwoman would be entering production in April of this year, the confirmation that the series has been green-lit is finally upon us!
Naturally, the series will star Orange is the New Black alum Ruby Rose, who made her debut in the most recent “Elseworlds” crossover event. What comes as an even smaller surprise is the fact that Greg Berlanti will be taking the helm, furthering his record-breaking number of shows debuting in the 2018-19 season. Currently, he has 15 scripted dramas all planned to air, and Batwoman is one of them!
Caroline Dries, writer of episodes of Vampire Diaries and the “Elseworlds” crossover itself is set to write the pilot, with David Nutter (a name all Arrowverse fans should be familiar with) set to direct. After the reaction to Rose’s interpretation of the character in the CW event, it makes complete sense that the network would want to bank in on that as quickly as possible.
Personally, I am in the majority who loved the portrayal of Kate Kane’s live-action debut during the CW DC event, so to finally hear more news about her own series is fantastic. For those keeping up with the Arrowverse, The Flash will be the first to race back onto screens on January 15. Supergirl will return on January 20, with both Arrow and Black Lightning returning the following night on January 21. In the meantime, stay tuned in here at Dark Knight News to catch all the latest information as it comes.
