IGN just posted the trailer for DC Super Hero Girls: Intergalactic Games, the latest entry in the popular, kid-friendly franchise.  and a follow-up to 2016’s DC Super Hero Girls: Hero of the Year.

This popular animated web series and toy line is the result of a powerhouse team-up between DC and Mattel

DC Super Hero Girls is set mostly at Super Hero High – good old SHHS – and features younger versions of the iconic DC characters, including several familiar faces from the Batman family (and even a few members of his Rogue’s Gallery).

The first special, DC Super Hero Girls: Super Hero High was our introduction to the world of the series. Wonder Woman, among others, is a new student at the facility, run by Principal Waller (as in Amanda Waller, recently added to the DCEU in Suicide Squad) and – get this – Vice Principal Gorilla Grodd(!), and has to figure out where she fits in. The next feature,  Hero of the Year, had Wondy and others vying for that title while also dealing with a possible extradimensional invasion…

In this latest offering, our students and faculty are participating in something called the Intergalactic Games, squaring off against the visiting Korugar Academy – that’s right, Destro’s people!  But trouble arrives in the form of Granny Goodness and the Female Furies, who have a score to settle…

For DC superfans, the show is completely immersed in all corners of the DC Universe, with lesser known characters like Bumblebee and Cheetah sharing the spotlight alongside Harley Quinn, Supergirl, and of course Batgirl.  Fans of the Teen Titans cartoons will recognize Cyborg and Beast Boy as, respectively, Khary Payton and Greg Cipes, while Tara Strong pulls double duty as Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy.  Dean Cain and Helen Slater voice Pa and Ma Kent, while Tom Kenny lends his talents to the role of Commissioner James Gordon.

Kids’ superhero toys have often accused of being more oriented towards boys than girls, but it looks as though DC and Mattel thought of that and did something about it!
