More details concerning the Batman: Arkham Knight DLC pack titled “Batgirl: A Matter of Family” continue to trickle in. We already knew that it would take place before the events of Arkham Asylum, but we now know that Batgirl and Robin will team up to save Jim Gordon from the Joker. Just which Robin that is hasn’t been specified. Given the DLC’s place on the timeline and the history of Barbara Gordon and Dick Grayson in the comics, I’ll wager a guess that it’s Dick.
Another interesting detail is that this wasn’t developed by Rocksteady but rather WB Games Montreal, the team that brought us Arkham Origins. They have crafted a completely new area called Seagate Amusement Park, which apparently has undergone a rather deadly retrofit courtesy of the Joker.
“We wanted to recreate the feeling of being trapped in a bizarre and unique open environment playing a game of cat and mouse with the Joker,” design producer Justin Vazquez told Entertainment Weekly.
What’s more exciting is that the game will incorporate Barbara’s superior hacking skills. Vazquez continues: “Hacking is really what separates her from the other characters. It’s a gameplay mechanic with which the player can create situations for Batgirl to really shine. Our intention was that Batgirl should be less powerful than Batman, but that Batgirl plus hacking could give her opportunities do things that not even Batman can pull off.”
If you happen to be someone who missed the classic Harley Quinn look in the Arkham games, fear not because she will appear in her original threads as she and Joker will engage in a Dual Play battle with Batgirl and Robin in the DLC pack’s final showdown.
Season Pass subscribers can download “Batgirl: A Matter of Family” on July 14. Everyone else will have to wait until July 21 and pay $6.99.
