Production on The Batman Part II has finally started in London.
Director Matt Reeves shared the announcement with his signature cryptic behind-the-scenes image. Reeves posted on Twitter (or X if you may) yet another ambiguous teaser image with the caption: “#FirstShot #TheBatmanPart2… Here We Go…”

Note how the clapper board seems to feature a slightly different logo for The Batman. The Bat-logo is now red with a black background, evoking the Batman Beyond logo. Will Batman Beyond be in the movie? Probably not. But still is a fun detail.
What is a more interesting question is what is happening behind the clapper board? It looks like a blurry image of dead body in a morgue. This already has led a ton of fans to speculate on the significance of the body and if it is yet another clue to the next major villain.
Some people have guessed that maybe the Court of Owls are the villains of the movie and that the body is a Talon that can resurrect himself. The Court of Owls even has ties into another heavily-speculated villain: Mr. Freeze. In the comics, the Court uses some freezing agent to essentially resurrect their Talon assassins. The freezing agent is similar to one that Mr. Freeze uses for his ice technology.
Colin Farrell Returns in ‘The Batman Part II’
Another villain who is 100% confirmed is Colin Farrell’s return as the Penguin. However in a recent interview, Farrell admitted that his part in the film is relatively small.
“I don’t have the power to charge such an invitation, but it’ll be an amazing set to be on. The script, I’ve said before, and you know, I said it to you, it’s extraordinary. It really is. Matt is just so brilliant, and he just cares so deeply about the stories he tells. I will go fly to London in four or five weeks. I haven’t got much to do on it, but I’ll go for four or five weeks. I’ll be there for a few weeks. I’m so excited to see it as a fan.”
Is Oswald Cobblepott barely in Part II? Or is this Farrell being humble?
The Batman Part II will start production in spring 2026 and will hit theaters on October 1, 2027.
