Selina’s plans of bringing all her jail bird allies has finally hit its peak, in Catwoman #54. At the same time, an unexpected element just appeared to really set things into motion.
The large, rich cast in this current run of stories has been very well handled and tied into an ongoing narrative that’s left the way ahead open to almost any possibility.
The previous issue let us really see Selina as a leader and highlighted the quality and unique nature of each of her new allies in this prison. This chapter goes very deep into how well that training’s paid off.
Selina as a leader isn’t a thing that’s been explored very heavily, just with her coordinating the citizens of Alleytown. It feels very natural here and has worked in her favor, in terms of how the story’s unfolded so far.
I enjoy when a visual transition in a comic book is told with a few similar looking panels. The background not changing but all the figures in it moving in a dynamic way’s just a great visual that let’s the mind fill things in. Usually this is done with a moment of high action, but the act of entering a room then hiding in an air vent is a welcome change to convention.
Conclusion
Catwoman #54 is a solid transitional issue. We’ve seen our heroes make their way to the next big dramatic arc and there’s much to look forward to. At this point, her feud with both Punchline and Black Mask are up in the air and can be handled a number of ways. Anything can happen to our leading lady, which is what keeps this title so exciting.
