Review by Fay Clark

Steph was really not feeling herself the last time we checked in with her. Let’s hope Batgirls #3 treats her better. Cass and Babs are having a hard time as well, so I really need something to go the Batgirl’s way right now.

Batgirls, Baddies and Bad Dates

Our Girls have been put through the wringer lately, as Becky Cloonan and Michael W. Conrad have been throwing problem after problem at them. It only gets worse in Batgirls #3Luckily our girls know how to handle a little bit of a speed bump in their plans, or maybe a medium speed bump.

Cloonan and Conrad write a great story, and I have no idea where we’ll end up. Obviously, I hope everything works out for Babs, Cass, and Steph, but I know that’s not always how people write things. I love the constant back and forth communication between the girls. Cloonan and Conrad must have sisters because they write the conversations between these characters as if they are related. A family’s hard to write about, especially when they’re your chosen family and not blood-related.

I cannot BELIEVE Babs had a thing with some guy. I can’t really tell you more than that otherwise it ruins the surprise a little. What I can tell you is that I loved the way Becky and Michael wrote this. Then, on top of a slightly awkward Barbara, we have Steph and Cass in the earpieces poking fun out of their big sister! I love that scene, very well written with some classic banter.

The last few pages of Batgirls #3 really had me on the edge of my seat! I really don’t like where this is going.

Colorful Crime

Sarah Stern and Ivan Plascencia work together to create a stunning color palette in this issue, as it feels very vibrant and lively. Mix the colors with Jorge Corona’s art and you get an explosion of awesome. Other than sounding like Steph, I’m serious about the artwork. I enjoy reviewing this series so much because of the interesting way the art interacts with the colors. The backgrounds light up the image and keep everything powerful and loud, like the criminals we see on the page.

Conclusion

This is a great series. I love the overarching plotline and the way that everything’s a little up in the air. I can feel it all falling into place, though. The interactions between Babs, Steph, and Cass are to die for. The villains are all crazy and plentiful, but I have faith that they will soon be vanquished!

I cannot wait to continue with this series!
