The Batman’s Paul Dano has revealed that Matt Reeves’ script is “powerful” and surprising.
Dano is the actor portraying the Riddler in the superhero movie. Interestingly, Dano was off-set in England near the time COVID-19 pandemic shut down production. But when the filming halted, Dano was unable to return to England.
I was filming. I flew home to visit my baby and then didn’t get to fly back [to set, because of COVID-19], which is a really strange thing.
More recently, the British government lifted restrictions, allowing The Batman to continue filming. Dano is excited to return to work although he is not sure when exactly.
[sic] I feel really good about it. I think Matt Reeves is the real deal. I was really surprised by his script, which I think is, is potentially really powerful. Hopefully we’ll get to get back to it sometime soon? I’m not sure.
What We Know About ‘The Batman’
When pressed for more details about the Riddler, Paul Dano was purposefully vague.
I can’t even legally can’t say anything about [the script]. There’s something fun there in my character and in all the characters. It’s the kind of movie that we’re just desperate to share on the big screen in a big way. So, I hope we all figure this [COVID-19 situation] out and get excited to see a Batman movie. It will be worth it. It’s going to be really cool.
It’s great to hear actors being very passionate for the material. It does sound like Reeves has a good idea where to steer the character.
The real question remains, though. What do we know about the movie? Honestly? We don’t have a lot of details at all, what we do know that it’s set early in Batman’s career. According to Penguin actor Colin Farrell, that character only plays a relatively small part.
Finally, an odd tidbit of information, the Riddler’s real identity is altered in the movie. Instead of being Edward Nigma in the comics, he is Edward Nashton, like he was in the early days of the comics. Why the name change? Probably because E. Nigma is too “punny” for a more seriously toned movie?
The Batman may resume filming before July 2020 and is due to hit theaters on October 1, 2021.
