Nightwing #127 is all gas, no brakes. It’s a wonderful blend of political corruption, with a huge helping of giant purple monster blob. Treat for all those reading… Let’s discuss.

Grim-Night-Wing

When this issue first starts, it was giving me shades of Captain America: Brave New World…. And you know how much I love referencing Marvel and all that comes with it but seeing a politician who deep down we know is good, struggle with the decisions they’ve made, it’s interesting content. But Mayor Grayson-Lin has had a rough time of late, she betrayed her brother – our esteemed hero. She aligned with an evil, spooky, robo-cop-esque corporation to turn Bludhaven into a police state. And lastly she seemed to have had her brain fried by an old circus ghost connected with said evil corporation. And that’s just Nightwing’s sister?! The main man himself is feeling a bit defeated.
Titans Tower is a relic. He’s failed the people by letting a young man die. Letting another young man be left with no one. Poor Dich Grayson. All he has is his three legged dog. Beautiful Superhero Genius girlfriend, and the Billions of dollars left to him by his old Butler. Keep Nightwing in your hearts folks. (Yes I’m joking, they can make the Nightwing Comic serious, but they’ll never make me serious!)

One-eyed, One-horned Flyin’ Purple People Eater

The art style and the writing style are a perfectly matched combo, they show the city in a shadowy light, things feeling bleak and hopeless. When Bruno Redondo was drawing Nightwing it was colors and candy for breakfast (bare in mind I F***ing loved that art). So this style, this story, this giant monster and police robots. Feels different. Different isn’t always good. This is. I’m enjoying it. My only issue is they’re expecting us to remember a lot of new names on the fly, kids, villains, gangs. For a monthly title that I read alongside every other book of DC and Marvel every week, when I read a panel and it says something like “What about Bryce?” In My head… Who the hell is Bryce??!?! Maybe a little bit more recap/exposition around new characters… Just to keep them in our minds each issue.

Conclusion

Nightwing #127 is a great start to the new/continued story. If you want to know what comes next, just check your imagination! Ooooo TEASER!
