Bane is coming to Absolute Batman and DC previews his new design.
This new version of Bane will debut in Absolute Batman #9. Based on Bane’s look, he seems to at least have his traditional powerhouse, bulky physique that can overpower Batman. And if you’ve seen Absolute Batman’s already-gigantic size, then you know that Bane being even more physically intimidating than that is impressive.
Also, note that the mask is slightly tweaked. Traditionally, Bane’s mask does not have a mouth. But here, Bane seems to have a Luchador-style mouth piece. As per usual, not much is known about what Bane has in store. However, Snyder previously teased that Bane is somehow tied to the mystery of Ark-M. According to the solicitation, he also has a history with Alfred.
Spoilers Alert!
Readers also know that Bane works for this universe’s Joker. At the end of Absolute Batman #6, the Joker hails his minor to “Get Bane”. Incidentally, the Joker also seems to be sitting on a throne of babies (!), so that’s a thing.
Official Solicitation for ‘Absolute Batman’
Check out the official DC solicitation.
AN ALL NEW ARK (M) STARTS HERE! The latest development in saving the derelict and despondent of our society is a facility known as Ark M — a fully operational institution that has played a rather sizeable part, on purpose or not, in the creation of evil. And it’s active. So when Bruce tries infiltrate it and distill its secrets, a new villain from Gotham City arrives to deal with the problem… an old adversary of Alfred’s… a man known only as Bane.
Bane Co-Creator Speaks on Absolute Redesign
Not everyone is happy with Bane’s new design. Bane co-creator Graham Nolan opened up about his displeasure for the new look, calling it a “terrible abomination” on X (formerly Twitter).
As the designer /co-creator of Bane…this is a terrible abomination. pic.twitter.com/VOaGIuELFy

However after a few days of push-back over his harsh comments, Nolan clarified his initial stance. He reiterated that readers need to “relax” and that it is just his opinion. He even went on to state that he wants readers to buy Absolute Batman. Nolan also gently implied that buying the comic actually contributes to his artist royalties, so he wouldn’t want to trash the comic too hard.
After being asked countlessly for my opinion on this version of Bane, I gave an honest answer and broke X! I’ve been called everything from a “has been”, to “bitter”, to “old”. Okay, the last one may be accurate.
Relax! It’s just MY opinion! It shouldn’t affect how you feel… https://t.co/uJmeMRCfoB
