The Batman will be released in theaters with a special preview for The Penguin for one night only.

AMC Theaters will rerelease the hit movie on Wednesday, August 28, 2024. The film being back on-screen is an attempt to build some more anticipation for The Penguin television show on Max. Not much is known about what the preview would be for Penguin or how long it is. However there are reports that they will feature behind the scenes footage.

How ‘The Batman’ Sets Up ‘Penguin’

It will be interesting to see how much of The Batman figures into The Penguin. In the film, “Oz” Cobblepot started out as a lieutenant for big Gotham crime lord Carmine Falcone. However, Carmine is eventually murdered by the Riddler- allowing an ambitious, power-hungry Oz to try to take over. To complicate matters, part of Gotham City is flooded when the Riddler blew up the flood levies surrounding the city. So Gotham needs to reckon with most likely being reverted back to a struggling economic state in light of the disaster. Crime will probably be rising despite Batman’s best efforts.

One can only hope that Penguin will take those plot threads and run with it. The show will feature Oz’s struggle for the throne of Gotham’s crime lord. But he needs to battle it out with Carmine’s daughter Sofia Falcone.  We also know that at the very least Gotham’s flooding will be referenced in the beginning of the show. Beyond that it, is unclear how much of Gotham’s new status quo will be expanded upon.

In any case, a theatrical rewatch of The Batman might just be the best thing to get fans into the mood for Penguin.
