DC Comics will publish a new ongoing Batman: The Brave and the Bold anthology comic series.

The latest iteration of the title will feature multiple stories in a giant-sized issue. One tale will be centered on Batman and the other will feature another DC hero. The first issue will boast Batman, the Joker, Director Bones, and Superman, in four separate tales.

The Brave and The Bold All-Star Line-Up

Tom King and Mitch Gerads are the creative team for the first Batman arc. Their inaugural story is a four-part retelling of the first meeting between Batman and the Joker. According to DC, it will be, “A tale of loathing, lies, and laughter, this may be the most frightening Joker story in a generation.”

The anthology will continue the tradition of the Batman: Black and White series, with Dan Mora writing and drawing. Here’s the official synopsis:

In a Gotham City overrun by the cybernetic henchmen of The Joker, the only person who can save us is the mysterious motorcycle-riding, bat-costumed hero of urban legend…

The third story will have Director Bones and StormWatch. Ed Brisson and Jeff Spokes are the creative team.

The Justice League may be gone, but its enemies aren’t. Who’ll protect the world from the worst of the worst?

Ed Brisson (Batman Incorporated) and Jeff Spokes (Wildstorm 30th Anniversary Special) pick up the story started in the Wildstorm 30th Anniversary Special as Director Bones and his new covert StormWatch team travel the globe on black-ops missions to take super-powered weapons of mass destruction off the board.

Of course, his is StormWatch, and as always, not all is as it seems. “Down with the Kings” starts here!

Finally, the last story spotlights Superman, with Christopher Cantwell and Javier Rodriguez as the creative team.

In “The Order of the Black Lamp – Part I,” from writer Christopher Cantwell (Co-creator, Halt and Catch Fire, Briar, Marvel’s Iron Man) and artist Javier Rodríguez (Marvel’s Daredevil, The Defenders), Superman finds a decoder ring with a secret message, “Save Me”, which sends him on a quest to solve a mystery with ties to the Man of Steel’s past.

The Brave and the Bold was originally an anthology book. The original run boasted of the first appearances of the Suicide Squad, Metamorpho, and the Teen Titans. Later in its run, DC retooled it into a Batman team-up book. The series ran for an impressive 200 issues.

The latest edition of Batman: The Brave and the Bold  hits comic shops on May 16.
