Director James Gunn Teases More Than One Post-Credits Scene for ‘The Suicide Squad’

While movies have already employed little scenes after the credits for many years, Marvel Studios has popularized the trend for comic-book movies. It’s become so prevalent that your average moviegoer is now trained to sit through the scrolling list of crew members to see what’s next on the docket. For the most part, lots of genre flicks have learned to adopt the same tradition. Being a former Marvel Studios guy, director James Gunn seems intent to carry the tradition on for The Suicide Squad. In fact, Gunn seems to be implying that there could be more than one post-credits scene for TSS.

In case you haven’t heard, Gunn is a very active social media-er. He frequently engages with fans by answering questions about his upcoming projects. Considering that post-credits scenes are all the rage at the moment, one fan stepped up and asked Gunn about whether there will be a post-credits scene in TSS. (Have you ever Googled to see if a movie has a post-credit scene? There are entire articles dedicated to just answering yes or no.) As he tends to do, Gunn replies with an incredibly vague but telling one-word answer.

More than one post-credits scene, but how many?

So, the first thing that immediately comes to mind is that there has to be more than one post-credits scene, right? So far Gunn hasn’t been one to troll his fans, aside from just teasing about upcoming stuff, but to outright lie? That doesn’t seem to fit his style. Since the writer/director replied to question with the use of the singular “A,” I’d say that the Internet guess of multiple post-credits scenes isn’t too far off. My guess is that we’re going to get one mid-credits scene played right before the long scrolling text and one true post-credits scene. Considering the tradition, one will likely tease an upcoming DC film while the other will be played for laughs.

However, a quick Google search reminded me that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 had several scenes that were played all throughout the credits eventually ending with one true post-credits scene. So yes, with that confirmation, we can safely assume that there will be multiple scenes. I can’t wait.

What do you think his post-credits scene will tease? Could it be another Suicide Squad movie? Or perhaps it’ll give us new footage for The Batman? Let me know.

I’m personally keeping my fingers crossed for The Flash or Shazam: Fury of the Gods, no matter how unlikely.

The Suicide Squad hits theatres and HBO Max in the US on August 6, 2021.
