We all know that Dave Bautista pursued the role of Bane, but the former wrestler has shed more light on his pitch.

Yes, both Bautista and Bane are large and imposing figures, but they have more in common than that. Both have ties to James Gunn too, as the former wrestler has appeared in Gunn’s Guardian of the Galaxy films, and the Batman villain has been part of the Suicide Squad in the comics. Dave Bautista was very vocal about his feelings for Gunn when he was fired from Disney, and it was clear he was more than willing to work with the filmmaker again. When Gunn was hired for The Suicide Squad, it wasn’t hard to imagine Bautista also crossing the street to the distinguished competition.

As we know, he lobbied for the role of Bane. The story’s pretty straightforward: he charged in and he wanted the job. The problem was, the job didn’t exist.

Talking to Screen Rant, Bautista said:

They were a little like “whoa, we’re not even casting Bane.” I was like “I don’t care, I’m playing him.”

He has recently taken to social media to confirm these events event further.

Maybe Next Time

It was rumored Bautista was going to be in The Suicide Squad at one point, but scheduling conflicts prevented it from happening. During the film’s production, the actor was in the process of shooting with Zack Snyder, who may also be familiar with DC movies, on his latest project, Army of the Dead.

What do you think? Could Bautista bring Bane to life for the next generation? Would you like to see the former wrestler join the DCEU? Let us know below!
