DC have announced new creative teams for their Harley Quinn and Batman/Superman titles.
Stephanie Phillips will write the new ongoing series, from Harley Quinn #1 starting in March. Artist Riley Rossmo will round out the creative team. Phillips will also write Future State: Harley Quinn in January and February.
I think we’re really seeing Harley brought back more into the Gotham fold lately, as she makes her own path, trying to navigate the hero/villain dynamics of a city that has just been rocked by the events of “The Joker War”. While Future State is taking place some years after this, I think it’s important to see Harley really forging a unique path that we haven’t seen for her yet, and I think we will continue to see more of that in 2021.
Earlier in the year, Harley Quinn ended with issue #75. However, we now know that it is because DC is relaunching Quinn after the Future State event.
Phillips recently contributed to the anthology one-shots DC’s Crimes of Passion #1, as well as DC Cybernetic Summer #1. Riley Rossmo most recently illustrated Dark Nights: Death Metal: Robin King #1.
New ‘Batman/Superman’ Creative Team
In related news, writer Gene Luen Yang will write Batman/Superman when the title returns in March with issue #16. Like Philips, Yang is also writing Future State: Batman/Superman. He will be joined by artist Ivan Reis.
Previously, Yang wrote the excellent YA graphic novel Superman Smashes the Klan. Reis is currently penciling Superman.
Both titles will launch in March after the Future State event.
