Matt Reeves Releases First Official Look at Robert Pattinson as Batman

In case you didn’t know, Matt Reeves’ The Batman has already entered production. Rehearsals were confirmed as early as December and set photos have graced the Internet, as they tend to do. However, as far as I know, it was a fairly quiet start as Warner Bros. has remained very tight-lipped about it. That is until just about an hour and a half ago. On this quiet Thursday night, on the eve of Valentine’s Day here in the States, Reeves decided he wanted to break the Internet by revealing the first official look at Robert Pattinson as Batman.

In a Tweet with very little context, Reeve dropped a Vimeo link to a video featuring RBattz himself in the Batsuit.

Take a look:

RBattz Rises

In the darkness, several minor chords start playing, as a figure slowly starts walking forward revealed by a dim red light similar to a dark room used for photography. And there it is, our first look at the new Bat Symbol spread across the chest. The camera slowly turns and rises to reveal that darn chin of RBattz. He definitely has the chiseled jaw for the cowl. The clip lasts just about a minute and it cuts to black.

So I’m loving the new Bat Symbol. It spreads thinly across the chest and reminds me of the Bat Symbol from the Arkham video game series. As is the case with modern takes on the Bats, his suit looks to be made up of segmented pieces of armor. And that score. What a wonderful piece by composer Michael Giacchino. It’s incredibly dark, but heroic, reminding me of Danny Elfman’s iconic tones from Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman. It’s epic and I can’t wait to hear the rest of the score.

What do you think of our first official look at Robert Pattinson as Batman? Is this what you were hoping for? How do you feel about the new Bat Suit and symbol? Let me know.

The Batman hits theatres on June 25, 2021. Alongside Pattinson, it also stars Zoe Kravitz as Selina Kyle, Paul Dano as Edward Nashton, Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot, and Andy Serkis as Alfred.
