Harley Quinn Could Appear In ‘The Suicide Squad’

The Suicide Squad will be hitting theaters on August 6, 2021, directed by James Gunn of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 1 and Vol 2 fame.

With DC’s cinematic universe still in flux, it’s unknown if this will be a reboot, a continuation of Suicide Squad, or its own side project, like the Martin Scorsese produced Joker.

Due to this uncertainty, it was unknown if Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn would be featured in the film. It was reported that her interpretation of the psychotic psychologist would be confined to Birds of Prey films, including the one being filmed now.

However, it seems like Quinn will, indeed, be back for The Suicide Squad. According to Mark Hughes from Forbes,

I have learned from sources close to production that in fact, the information about Harley Quinn being absent from the new Suicide Squad movie is no longer up to date. She is indeed expected to appear in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, which is expected to begin production later this year.

Mark Hughes has had his finger on the pulse of superhero films for a while now, so while his word shouldn’t be taken as gospel, it is usually reliable intel.

Again, the future of DC films is still up in the air. Ben Affleck recently left the role of Batman, but his Batman has directly interacted with Margot’s Harley Quinn. Jared Leto is, also allegedly, not playing the Joker again. This Joker also interacted with Harley.

WB also spoke about how their films will be individual films as opposed to world building films, especially after the success of Aquaman. I’m sure we’ll see how everything fits together in the future, but for now we’ll just have to remain patient.

We still don’t know much about James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, but we will have plenty of DC films to enjoy until then.

Shazam! is out on April 5th, Joker on October 4th, Birds of Prey (and and Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) on February 7th, 2020, and Wonder Woman 1984 on June 5th, 2020.
