The DC Extended Universe is rapidly expanding. With productions such as Aquaman and Shazam! waiting for release. Warner Bros. also have a number of productions they are currently working on; including a Birds of Prey film.

The major news for this film is that Margot Robbie will be reprising her role as Harley Quinn. She will be joined by Rosie Perez as GCPD’s Renee Montoya. Other fan favourite DC heroines such as Black Canary and Huntress have also been rumoured to be joining the film’s roster.

While none of these characters are unfamiliar to the spotlight, having appeared in multiple cartoons and live action shows, it is a different member of the Bat-Family that is currently taking the spotlight. Cassandra Cain, who most comic fans will know as Orphan from Detective Comics, will appearing on the silver screen for the first time.

Comics writer James Tynion IV spoke to CBR.com at the recent New York Comic Con about the character’s debut. When asked about her coming to the big screen, Tynion had this to say;

Cassandra is one of my favorite characters. All the way back in Batman & Robin Eternal we were able to bring her back into continuity, and then being able to write her for two years in Detective Comics. … She is a character that means a lot to a lot of people.

Tynion has had the pleasure of writing most of Cassandra’s stories over the last few years. He’s built an incredible character, one that hopefully is done justice in her upcoming big screen debut.
